Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

Books being made into moves is nothing new, Keira Knightly was not the first actress to portray Miss Elizabeth Bennett after all. But with the super success of the Harry Potter and Hunger Games franchises, it seems like producers are on the hunt for the next big hit, and they're shopping the book shelves for it. It never fails that after someone sees the movie, they wander in to the Library, asking for the book. Sometimes they're inspired to re-read it, or to seek out more. After The Hobbit hit theaters, our patrons wanted more than just the book, they wanted The art of the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien or even The Hobbit and philosophy : for when you've lost your dwarves, your wizard, and your way

In this post we've compiled a list of some of the book to big screen favorites that are coming soon, click on the cover images below to place a hold and beat the rush.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl is only the first in a series of four books. The film adaptation premiers on Valentines Day.

The Great Gatsby was originally published in 1925, and holds steady on many 'Greatest Novels of'' lists. Hitting theaters May 10th, this latest film version stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. It's directed by Baz Luhrmann, of Australia and Moulin Rouge fame.

Warm Bodies is the story of R, a zombie who enjoys Frank Sinatra and riding escalators, and who just wants a little love. Premiering on February 1st, this might be a great Valentines Day option. With zombies and love, everyone wins.

Stephenie Meyer's other book, The Host, is scheduled for it's cinematic release on March 29th. Lead character Melanie shares her mind with an invading member of an alien species.

Nicholas Sparks has had several books that have become successful films, including The Notebook, Nights in Rodanthe, and A Walk to Remember. You can see his latest on Valentines Day, Safe Haven starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel.
